Sold out: Jazz Maastricht Masters

That weekend was the 7th edition of the Jazz Maastricht Masters. Sounding names on the program brought many jazz lovers to Maastricht. With Gino Vannelli and Zuco 103 on Friday a perfect musical evening for a very diverse public was made possible. The more intimate Saturday was devoted to big names in the jazzworld and therefore attracted many jazzloving visitors. Friday and Saturday where both sold out.

Friday March 20th

Friday evening Gino Vannelli opened the Jazz Maastricht Masters. He was guided by a band witch existed out of mostly Dutch musicians. The Vannelli-fans came from all over Europe to see his performance in the Theater aan het Vrijthof. After his show Gino was ready to sign autographs for his fans. His fans reacted very amused and some of them even got the chance to take a picture with him. Also Zuco 103, the second main stage performance got the appreciation of the visitors. With their mix of jazz, Brazilian and electro styles they knew to get the people enthusiastic. Michel Bisceglia gave an intimate piano concert in the Bovenzaal. Michel writes, arranges and produces music for movies and big events. He is known as one of the most productive and appreciated Belgian musicians. It was a succesfull and attractive evening with music of the highest level, where the enormous dance stage was really worth dancing on the jazz sounds of these artists.

Saturday March 21st

On Saturday the American jazzpianist Brad Mehldau, who is nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Jazz Instrumental Album’. The talented pianist won the Edison Jazz Music Award last year. During his performance the artist showed he was worth the nominations. Later that evening played the Belgium guitarist Philip Catherine. He played wonderful melodies in different styles. Also this performance was of high quality and therefore in consistence with the rest of the performances.
